Sometimes when I think about race day (Feb. 28! YIKES!) I hear announcers in my head like at Nascar.
“It’s race day fans! Today, we’ve got our rookie Beth Shaw at the start and some pretty stiff competition from the old pros.”
“Yeah, Jim Bob, I don’t know if she’s got enough experience for today.”
“Well, we’ll see how she runs today. Hopefully that engine has been re-worked since her last disappointing race.”
So while I didn’t get that promotion at work, I am not too bummed about it. Hell, I’ve only been here two months and they have put me on the fast track grooming plan. I can dig it. Besides, more responsibilities equals more stress and longer hours. I’ll stick to my get-out-of-work-on-time-to-run schedule – for now.
I feel the need for a haircut. Or a new tattoo. Or some shoes. Or maybe just another good run and then all of the above will not be as needed. Weird how that works isn’t it?
Is every runner this introspective? Sheesh. I am like the freakin’ Thinker when I run. I must get some of my best ideas while running.
Except of course, for this blog post.
Have a great Tuesday everyone!
I agree- sometimes the less work/less stress route is best. Anyway, your time will come soon enough!
I'm a Thinker when I'm in the car. I commute 2+ hours a day and have the best ideas in the car. I need a tape recorder or something so I don't forget them all.
$120 is a lot of money for a 1/2 marathon. I'd pass on that too!
I tend to get that feeling that I need something new this time of year too . . . just a little stir crazy!
Yeah it's January and life can feel kinda blah. Inspiration will return!!!
This is exactly how my mind works, therefore it is understandable that I fully relate to this posting. Sorry about the promotion, but I'm sure another opportunity is waiting to take it's place. A new pair of shoes always makes thing better!
Props for writing through the block. "I feel the need for a haircut. Or a new tattoo. Or some shoes. Or maybe just another good run…" is so so true – just one of them can seem to take care of all 🙂
Funny you were contimplating the Disney Half…I think I want to do the one in August here in Cali, but you're right $120 bucks is insane when I add on everything else!
It's funny… last night as I was finishing up one of my repeats I suddenly started picturing Gasparilla and finishing and then turnning around to find you on course so I could cheer you in. I got so excited to cheer you in and you totally killed your time, just like I know you will. Then I hit "lap" and the moment passed but I have a good feeling about Gasp!!!
Happy Tuesday!! Don't worry about your future race on Feb 28th! You are going to do awesome:)
The entire reason I would not do anything Disney is because they are grossly overpriced.
$120 for a HALF marathon entry fee. Holy moly, steep! I don't blame you for passing that up!
$120 for a Half … too steep for me too!
I feel the same way about the "needing a haircut, tatoo, shoes :)" I go on a good run and it makes it all better … but I still need a haircut ;}
Your going to rock it Feb 28th!
You had shake and bake? Is there video?
120???? That is crazy– But you do get a tiara 🙂
Great to briefly meet you in Disney! I hope I didn't scare you when I yelled out your name lol I was just so excited!
I get my best ideas while on the can! JK. LOL… Boo for Disney being so expensive… seriously, they want just as much for their little princess half as the Full Marathon was…wtf? I'd rather buy a couple Jet Blue tickets to PR! Love the "shake and bake" quote… "yeah, that just happened!" Hahaha
I think all runners are a little introspective. We just end up with a lot of time on our hands especially on the weekends where we can't do anything else but run and think. I'm sure you've heard this song before, but you need to listen to it again because it goes along with your race day announcer spiel. It's from Cake called the Distance. Go listen to it now!
i am often in a blogging-funk, "what the crap do i have to say?" you however, do not seem to be in one, you at least have these random things 🙂 lol about the nascar commentators. and yes, disney is expensive! so are rock 'n roll races. i mean, 100$+ for a half… yeah no.
$120? Seriously? And I agree that it's nice to have a schedule that allows you to fit in a run…who needs more money anyway?
For what it's worth, Rock n' Rollis doing a new 1/2 in San Diego. Price? The same as the full! WTF?
$120 for Disney princess!! That is crazy. Not even worth the tiara medal you get. I am so disappointed to hear that. 🙁 I really wanted that medal ha ha
